Nailing Down:
Harlech can be secret nailed onto various timber subfloors, including solid wood flooring, plywood, OSB, particleboard, and securely adhered vinyl tile or non-cushioned resilient floors installed on a wood subfloor.

Gluing Down:
For direct gluing, Harlech can be applied to concrete, ceramic tiles, terrazzo, metal, slate, marble, OSB, or plywood. Ensure the surface is rough or porous. Slick or sealed surfaces should be pre-sanded, especially gypsum and anhydrite screeds, to remove soft surface laitance. When gluing to concrete, use Woodpecker 11P Surface Primer for a strong bond. Gypsum or anhydrite screeds require additional preparation with Woodpecker Level-X Primer and Level-X levelling compound to remove soft surface laitance.

Floating:
A floating floor installation is suitable for concrete, anhydrite, existing wood floor chipboard, ceramic tiles, terrazzo, metal, PVC, linoleum, slate, marble, particleboard, OSB, and plywood subfloors (excluding carpet). Choose an underlay with a built-in damp-proof membrane, such as Floormate or Aquastop, based on the subfloor condition.

How should I clean my Harlech floor?

For cleaning, simply use our specially formulated cleaning kit for lacquered floors or a well-wrung mop with water only. Avoid using steam mops or other solutions.

Does my Harlech floor require acclimatization before installation?

Yes, we recommend letting your Harlech floor acclimatize for 3 to 4 days in the same room where it will be installed, remaining within its sealed packaging to prevent warping due to temperature changes. Avoid storing the flooring outdoors or in damp areas.

How much wastage should I allow for?

We typically suggest allowing for 10% wastage, but factors like room shape and laying style can influence this, so it's best to consult with your installer.

What condition should the subfloor be in?

The subfloor should be structurally sound, flat, and free from damp, rot, or insect infestation. Vacuum and remove all debris before installation, and ensure hot pipes are well insulated to prevent localised hotspots.

What is colour variation, and how should I lay planks with color variation?

Colour variation is the natural diversity in colour found in real wood. To achieve a balanced effect, blend planks from multiple packs throughout the room.

What type of joints does Harlech have?

Harlech features tongue and groove joints.

What expansion gaps does Harlech flooring require?

Expansion gaps are necessary wherever the boards meet a wall or other structures, typically requiring a 2mm gap for every meter span of the floor, with a minimum of 10-15mm. For wider areas, additional provisions should be made.

How can Harlech flooring be installed?

Harlech flooring can be floated, secret nailed, or glued.

Is Harlech flooring compatible with underfloor heating?

Yes, but it must be fully stuck down for use with underfloor heating.

How thick is Harlech flooring?

Harlech flooring is 15mm thick, including a 4mm real oak wear layer.

What does 'pack includes cut lengths' mean?

At least one plank in each pack will be cut in half to help spread joints across the floor, enhancing structural integrity.

Can I use Harlech flooring in my bathroom?

We generally do not recommend using engineered flooring in bathrooms.
