Internal Fire Doors for Safety, Style and Everyday Living

Internal fire doors are an important part of protecting a house, helping to slow the spread of flames and smoke so people have more time to escape. Unlike standard doors, domestic fire doors are made with tested materials and are designed to stand up to extreme heat for a set period. At Newland Floors and Doors, we offer a wide selection of internal fire doors to suit residential buildings, from simple contemporary designs to rustic oak, oak veneer and more traditional options.

Our range includes solid designs, glazed fire doors and styles with fire rated glass panels that allow natural light to move between rooms. These glazing options are useful where you want light flow through a hallway, stairwell or living space without losing the protection of an FD30 or FD60 fire door. Glass panels can also help the door suit your interior decor, whether you prefer a clean modern finish, a warmer timber look or a style that works with existing interior doors.

A fire door is only suitable when it is installed correctly with the right door frame, fire door frames, fire door hinges, intumescent seals and intumescent strips. The frame, hinges, seals and hardware all need to match the door’s fire rating and test evidence, so hanging a fire door should never be treated the same as fitting a standard internal door. British Standard BS testing, manufacturer guidance and building regulations all matter when you need compliance and peace of mind.

Fire doors may be required in areas such as loft conversions, a habitable room opening onto a protected escape route or a door between a home and an integral garage. They can help protect lives, but they must be chosen, fitted and maintained properly to do their job. A: Yes, glazed fire doors can include glass panels, but the glass must be fire rated and suitable for the door. Fire rated glass panels are designed to help retain protection while allowing natural light to pass through.

Q: Where are internal fire doors usually needed in a home?

A: Internal fire doors are often used in loft conversions, on rooms opening onto a protected stairwell or between a house and an integral garage. Requirements can vary, so always check building regulations or speak to building control before purchase.

Q: Do fire doors need special hinges and frames?
