Description
Treatex Bangkirai Oil gives long-term weather protection to outdoor hardwood. It is tinted with natural pigments that give excellent UV protection without hiding the grain, and its weather-resistant formula protects against silvering and water getting in. It contains no biocides or toxic ingredients and is safe for children's toys.
It is made for Bangkirai, Yellow and Red Balau, Karri, Massaranduba, Iroko and Ipe, and suits decking, garden furniture and cladding. Treatex also says it can be used on interior timber where high performance is needed. It is not suitable for high tannin timbers such as oak.
Key facts
- Pack size: 2.5L
- Coverage: about 50m² per tin in one coat, depending on the texture and porosity of the timber; rough sawn can use two to three times more
- Best on: dense hardwoods such as Bangkirai, Balau, Karri, Massaranduba, Iroko and Ipe
- Use: interior and exterior hardwood surfaces
How to use it
Use it on unfinished timber and strip off any closed finish like paint. Oily, dense timbers should weather for at least three months, or be washed with warm soapy water, rinsed and dried to remove resins. Sand smooth and check the timber is dry and clean first. Used oily cloths and rags should be laid flat to dry before you throw them away, because oils that cure can heat up and in rare cases catch fire if they are left screwed up.
Works well with
Add grip on decking with Anti Slip Decking Protection, or refresh greyed boards first with Wood Rejuvenator. A similar oil for the same timbers is Iroko Oil. Browse our Treatex exterior wood oils, paints and preservatives collection.
