Description
Treatex Cedar Oil is made for exposed structures such as sheds, outbuildings, clubhouses and studios. It protects cedar and larch against water damage, weathering and UV, with natural pigments that do not hide the grain. It will not flake or peel and is made from sunflower, safflower and soybean oils.
Key facts
- Pack size: 2.5L
- Coverage: about 35m² per tin in one coat; old, dry or rough sawn timber will use more
- Best on: cedar and larch
- Not for: high tannin timbers such as oak and sweet chestnut
- Use: cladding, doors, windows, shingles and other exterior joinery
How to use it
Use it on bare timber. Strip any closed finish such as paint, lightly sand porous finishes with 120 grit paper, and make sure the surface is dry and free of algae and dirt. Treatex suggests ideally letting the timber weather for at least three months. Treat timber that is prone to mould or fungi with a preservative first, and buy enough for the whole job so you can mix tins. Used oily cloths and rags should be laid flat to dry before you throw them away, because oils that cure can heat up and in rare cases catch fire if they are left screwed up.
Works well with
A grey look is available with Grey Cedar Oil, and Larch Oil suits the same timbers. Treat with W219 Preservative first if the timber is at risk of fungi. Browse our Treatex exterior wood oils, paints and preservatives collection.
