Description
Treatex Exterior Oils are water-repellent, UV-protective oils for outdoor timber: decking, doors, windows, fences, sheds and cladding. The oil soaks into the timber and clings to the wood capillaries, so it defends against the weather without forming a film that can crack, flake or peel. It contains no biocides or toxic ingredients and is safe for children's toys.
The colours and finishes include Clear, Sheer, Albino, Champagne, Dun, Buckskin, Spanish Chestnut, Copper Bay, Bay, Seal Brown, Blue Roan, Steel Grey, Smokey Black, Belgian Black and Virgin Oak. The pigmented colours give UV protection without hiding the grain. Sheer is a clear finish with UV protection. Clear is not UV protective and is not meant to be used on its own, but it can be applied over a coloured oil on decking and walkways for extra wear resistance.

- Conditions: timber moisture below 18%, temperature between 8 and 25 degrees Celsius, and no rain forecast before, during or after
- Overcoating: can be overcoated with Anti Slip Decking Protection or UV Oil
- Use: interior and exterior; most timber species
How to use it
Treat it as a job for unfinished timber. Remove any flaking finish, make sure the timber is dry and free from algae, grease and dirt, and stir the tin before and during use. Exotic and oily timbers like iroko and bangkirai should weather for at least three months, or be washed with warm soapy water, rinsed and dried to remove the resins. Timber prone to mould or fungi should be treated with a preservative first, and a trial patch is strongly recommended. Put the first coat on all sides if you can, using plenty on the end grain. Used oily cloths and rags should be laid flat to dry before you throw them away, because oils that cure can heat up and in rare cases catch fire if they are left screwed up.
