Description
Treatex Grey Cedar Oil soaks into cedar and larch and, much like bark, attaches to the wood capillaries to protect against extreme weather. It also brings out the silver-grey colour cedar gets with age while still protecting the timber and allowing it to mature naturally.
You can keep the grey look going with future coats, or leave the timber to mature on its own. It is toy safe, UV and water resistant, and has no biocides or toxic ingredients.
Key facts
- Pack size: 2.5L
- Coverage: about 35m² per tin in one coat; rough sawn timber can use two to three times more
- Best on: cedar and larch cladding, windows and doors
- Not for: high tannin timbers such as oak and sweet chestnut
- Conditions: timber moisture below 18% and a temperature between 8 and 25 degrees Celsius
How to use it
Use on unfinished timber, with any previous closed finish fully removed. Lightly sand porous finishes before overcoating and do a trial application first. Treat timber at risk of decay or fungi with a preservative before you start. Used oily cloths and rags should be laid flat to dry before you throw them away, because oils that cure can heat up and in rare cases catch fire if they are left screwed up.
