Description
Treatex UV Oil is a clear, water-resistant oil that shields exterior timber from the sun. It is made from natural refined oils, soaks well into even dense timber and keeps the natural look of the wood while protecting against UV bleaching and silvering.
It is made for vertical surfaces such as cladding, doors, windows, shingles, fencing and other exterior joinery. Because it uses natural oils it is not suitable for decking or other horizontal surfaces and walkways.
Key facts
- Pack sizes: 1L and 2.5L
- Coverage: about 25m² per 1L and 50m² per 2.5L in one coat; rough sawn or planed timber may use more
- Finish: clear, UV resistant
- Tannin: timbers with high tannin, such as air dried oak, can still leach tannin in the early stages
- Use: interior and exterior; vertical timber only
How to use it
It works best on unfinished timber. Strip off any finish that would stop the oil soaking in, such as paint, lightly sand porous old finishes to 120 grit, and make sure the timber is dry and clean with moisture content around 18% or lower. Buy enough to finish the whole job and mix tins together. A trial application first is essential if you are going over an existing finish.
