Description
Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear is a natural oil and wax finish for interior timber: floors, stairs, doors, furniture and kitchen worktops. It is the Ultra formula, which Treatex says is easier to apply and more durable than the version before it. Two coats give a hard-wearing surface that is easy to clean, and if a patch gets damaged you can spot repair it without redoing the whole floor.
The finish is made from carnauba, bee and candelilla waxes with linseed, sunflower and jojoba oils, and it contains no biocides or preservatives. It comes in five sheens from Flat Matt through to Gloss, so you can choose how much light the surface reflects.

- Pack sizes: 0.125L, 0.5L, 1L, 2.5L and 5L, in every sheen

- Drying: usually 3 to 6 hours between coats, or about 1 hour if the first coat is buffed in
- Back in use: careful use after about 8 hours, furniture after about 18 hours, rugs and cardboard after 72 hours, and plastic sheeting not for at least 14 days

How to use it
Stir the tin well, then put the first coat on with a good quality brush or a short pile microfibre roller. Leave it for 3 to 6 hours with the room well ventilated, then apply the second coat. Do not put it on thickly, as that slows drying a lot. Sanding between coats is not usually needed, but if the grain lifts a light sand with 120 grit paper will sort it. On a heated floor, switch the heating off at least 24 hours beforehand so the floor has cooled, and leave it off until the oil has dried.
Dense, oily timbers such as teak or iroko take the first coat better if you mix in about 10% Treatex Thinner. For a harder surface on busy floors you can add Treatex Hardener at 1 part to 20, and for stairs, wet areas and ramps there is the R12 anti-slip additive. If you want colour, put on Colour Tones Ultra first and always finish with Ultra Clear as the final coat.
Empty the sawdust from your sander and vacuum thoroughly before you oil, and keep in mind that used oily cloths and rags should be laid flat to dry before you throw them away, because oils that cure can heat up and in rare cases catch fire if they are left screwed up.
Looking after the finish
Once it has cured, keep it clean with Treatex Floor Care or the ready-to-use Spray On Floor and Surface Cleaner, and refresh a tired floor with Treatex Wax Polish.
