Description
Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Soft White is a white tinted version of the Ultra hardwax oil, made for light coloured timber. Clear oils tend to warm up pale wood; Soft White helps cut that down, so oak, ash, beech, birch, maple and sycamore stay light in a single product. It suits floors, stairs, doors, skirting, worktops and furniture, and like the clear oil it is easy to maintain and can be spot repaired.
Treatex says you can use it on its own to keep the light look of timbers such as oak, or over Colour Tones Ultra in Spruce to get a whiter finish. It is not meant for darker timbers.
Key facts
- Best on: lighter timbers such as oak, ash, beech, birch, maple and sycamore
- Softwoods: Treatex suggests pine and other softwoods are better treated with Colour Tones Ultra Spruce followed by Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear
- Pack sizes: 0.125L, 0.5L, 1L and 2.5L
- Coverage: about 10m² per 0.5L, 20m² per 1L and 50m² per 2.5L for one coat, or 6m², 12m² and 30m² for two coats. 1L does roughly three doors in two coats
- Drying: usually 3 to 6 hours, or about 1 hour if the first coat is buffed in
- Use: interior timber only, low odour, no biocides or preservatives
How to use it
Sand the timber, remove every trace of dust, stir the tin well and apply with a good quality brush or short pile microfibre roller. Put on two coats with 3 to 6 hours between them, keep the room ventilated, and avoid heavy coats because they take much longer to dry. A test on an offcut or a hidden corner is worth doing to check you like the tone. Used oily cloths and rags should be laid flat to dry before you throw them away, because oils that cure can heat up and in rare cases catch fire if they are left screwed up.
Works well with
If you would rather have a clear finish, see Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear. To add colour, there is Colour Tones Ultra. Once the floor has cured, clean it with Treatex Floor Care and refresh it later with Treatex Wax Polish. The whole range is in our Treatex hardwax oil and interior wood finishes collection.
