Treatex | Thermowood Oil

Treatex Thermowood Oil is made for Thermowood timber. It uses refined natural oils such as soy bean and sunflower oil, natural waxes, lead-free drying agents and iron oxide pigments. The oil soaks deep into the timber to leave a strong finish that suits most outdoor jobs, including decking, cladding and garden furniture.

The natural pigments give excellent UV protection without hiding the grain, and the finish is UV and water resistant, so it helps stop water getting in and the wood silvering. It contains no biocides or toxic ingredients.

Key facts

• Pack sizes: 1L and 2.5L
• Coverage: about 37.5m² per 2.5L in one coat; old, dry, porous or rough sawn timber will use more, and rough sawn can use two to three times more
• Best on: Thermowood, larch and exotic timbers
• Use: exterior decking, cladding and garden furniture

How to use it

Thermowood Oil is for unfinished timber, so any closed finish such as paint must be fully removed first. If the timber has gone grey, treat it with Treatex Wood Rejuvenator beforehand. Sand rough surfaces smooth where you can, as it improves coverage, and stir the tin before and during use. Used oily cloths and rags should be laid flat to dry before you throw them away, because oils that cure can heat up and in rare cases catch fire if they are left screwed up.
