Treatex | Thinner and Brush Cleaner

Treatex Thinner and Brush Cleaner does two jobs. Mixed into the first coat of Treatex Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear it helps the oil soak into oily and dense timbers that otherwise struggle to take a hard wax, such as teak, ipe, iroko and merbau. It also cleans your brushes after any oil-based finish.

• Pack sizes: 500ml and 1L
• Mix ratio: about 10% Thinner in the first coat of Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear
• Second coat: no need to thin it
• Also used for: cleaning brushes and rollers after oil-based finishes

How to use it

Add roughly 10% Thinner to the first coat of Hardwax Oil Ultra Clear, stir well and apply as normal. Treatex says this gives a more even finish and better protection against wear on oily timbers. For brush cleaning, work the brush in the thinner, wipe it off and let it dry. Used oily cloths and rags should be laid flat to dry before you throw them away, because oils that cure can heat up and in rare cases catch fire if they are left screwed up.
